Julian Lopez Galan

I did the new identity and website for Julián Lopez Galán. He is an architect with a career that started in 1976 and now in the maturity of his work he wanted a place to showcase hit best work (the latest of course).

It’s been very difficult to reflect such long career in the site without being obvious. I just wanted to talk about the works and be true to them and at the same time let the user realize that the works he is seeing are just some among many. A timeline was the only solution but I didn’t want anyone to learn to navigate so I kept it super simple and let the works speak for themselves about their date, importance, title and place in Julian’s career.

Now that I see it working it seems incredibly simple but it took me quite some time to figure it out and even longer to make it run properly.

Some 2005 illustrations

These are just old illustrations but I thought I should post them. They are aging well.

SuzieWong

I’ve just finished the SuzieWong website that I did for my friend David Diez. It’s a pretty small website completely centered on the collecion navigation which I am very proud of.

The graphic idea behind the site is using inverted colors as much as possible and make them look armonic.  I created the background illustration pretty fast and it reminds me that good designs come after hours of thinking and minutes of actual work.

On the technical side, it loads all images in the background and it scales to fill the whole screen. I am still experimenting with layouts that are not dependant on size or proportions and I thinkg I am getting somewhere.

This is a logo I made the for a friend of mine. SrGordo (MrFat, it’s the best name ever!) is his nickname and also the name for his postproduction studio.

I just wanted everyone to have as much fun with the graphics as they already do with the name. I went back to a classic 50’s , surf, overdone style that, well, why not?

Junquera-Oval

Posted in Jan 2008 as comercial and type and video with no comments

We (Luis Urculo and I) did a couple of videos to present and explain two big urbanism projects Junquera-Oval did recently. They already had graphics and documents to explain the projects in detail and as we did before with other clients, we tried to explain the project in a more emotional and aesthetic way. I also did some graphics to serve as indicators in the panoramic shot.

Expo in gallery Knopp

Posted in Dec 2007 as paper and promotional with no comments

Gallery Knopp (Stockholm) did an expo in 2004 with some of my works. However I no longer have these works online, they are too “electro”. I don’t know what got into us but we all were too much into that crap and now I can’t even look at that stuff without feeling embarrased. Though some people still like it, don’t know why.

Ramses

Posted in Dec 2007 as comercial and web with no comments

I designed the site for the Ramses restaurant. Phillip Starck did the interior design, Luis Urculo did the graphics and I designed and produced the website.

I did not focus my work on information but on inviting the potential customer to a magical experience. So that means, making the site truly special but smaller than it should be so everyone would be eager to see more. It is indeed a very small thing but I really like the site. The one thing I love most about design is making people feel things, specially when those things make a strong lasting impression.

Illustrations for PageOne

Posted in Oct 2007 as comercial and paper and promotional with no comments

They asked for some illustrations to be included in a book about “digital illustrations”. I still don’t know what they meant with digital so I did my thing and they liked it, they asked for a couple more and here they are, “digital illustrations”. I’ll post pictures of the book as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Place des cercles

Posted in Oct 2007 as comercial and type and video with no comments

This a video my buddy LuisUrculo and I did for Tuñon y Mansilla. We told the story of a proposal TyM planned for Carreau des halles in Paris. We represented the emotional construction of a place and a piece of architecture that could exist.

Fundacion Miguel Fisac

Identity (proposal) and website (fundacionfisac.com) consulting and design.

For the identity I created a type based on various fonts used in early twentieth century architectural technical papers.

For the website, I was presented to a wide number of functionalities and needs, I first focused on simplifying the use and structure and then, strip the design so it could be easily used for a target of forty something users not used to access this kind of information through the internet.

LuisUrculo.com

Posted in Aug 2007 as comercial and web with no comments

I designed and developed the site (and blog) for Luis Urculo. I had to do it in a rush because he desperately needed a site to showcase his work so I had to stick to fast to deploy Flash-self-made components and simple ergonomics but the result was quite good (and at the end, he loved the old school background).

I did this great looking logo but it differed too much from his style and it was too much of an attention grabber. That is something I’ve learned this year designing for other artists and designers, never shadow their work and personal style. I loved the logo but it was clearly inappropriate.
